Basic Information Of Inconel 601 Bar Product

The following is the product specifications of Alloy 601 bar that Gnee can provide. If you need other information, please contact us for more information.

Description

Inconel 601 bars(UNS N06601 2.4851 ) are a nickel-chromium-iron-based superalloy material renowned for its exceptional oxidation resistance even at extreme temperatures up to 2156°F (1180°C). It resists corrosion from high-temperature air, sulfur-containing atmospheres, and various corrosive media by forming a dense and robust chromium oxide protective film on its surface, while maintaining good mechanical strength and machinability.

These bars are widely processed into critical components used in heat treatment furnaces, chemical equipment, aerospace engines, and exhaust gas treatment systems. Whether used as radiant tubes or burners to support workpieces within furnaces, or as sealing rings in aero-engines, it provides long-term and reliable service performance in harsh thermal environments.

ASTM standards of Inconel 601 Bar

StandardProduct FormKey Points
ASTM B166Bar, ForgingSpecifically covers nickel-chromium-iron alloys (like Inconel 601) bar and forgings.
ASME SB166Bar, ForgingContent is essentially identical to ASTM B166, but is intended for boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressurized equipment.

Features And Advantages

  1. Unmatched High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: Offers the best oxidation and scaling resistance among all commercial nickel alloys up to 2200°F (1200°C), forming a tight, adherent Al₂O₃ layer that remains stable even under severe thermal cycling.
  2. Exceptional Performance in Aggressive Atmospheres: Highly resistant to carburization, sulfidation, nitridation, and chlorine-bearing environments – ideal for applications where other alloys fail due to “green rot” or rapid degradation.
  3. Outstanding Thermal Fatigue & Spalling Resistance: Maintains protective oxide scale integrity during repeated heating/cooling cycles, delivering 2–3 times longer service life than Inconel 600 in industrial furnaces and heat-treating equipment.
  4. Excellent Mechanical Properties & Fabricability: Retains good strength and ductility after long-term exposure at 1000–1150°C, with superior weldability (no preheat/post-weld heat treatment required) and easy hot/cold working.

FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about Inconel 601. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 plate are two grades of Inconel alloy. Inconel 600 is a low-carbon steel, while Inconel 601 is a high-carbon steel. Inconel 600 is used in applications requiring high strength and wear resistance, such as fasteners, machine parts, pressure vessels, and other applications requiring a low carbon content. Inconel 601 is used in applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance, such as fasteners, machine parts, and other applications requiring a high carbon content.

You should consider Inconel 601 when your application meets one or more of the following conditions:

The operating temperature is between 800°C and 1150°C for a long period of time.
It must withstand repeated heating and cooling (thermal cycling).
The environment contains elements such as sulfur and carbon (such as carburizing atmospheres and combustion exhaust gases).
Excellent resistance to oxidative spalling is required.

In addition to its excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, it also exhibits good resistance to a variety of corrosive media at room temperature, including:
Oxidizing acids such as nitric acid and phosphoric acid.
Fresh water, seawater, and neutral saline solutions.
However, its corrosion resistance to reducing acids (such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid) is poor, and its use in such environments is not recommended.
