Basic Information Of Monel 400 Product

The following is the product specifications of Monel alloy 400. If you need other more information, please contact us.

Description

Monel 400 is a high-performance nickel-copper alloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance and mechanical properties across a wide range of temperatures and environments. With a composition of approximately 67% nickel and 23% copper, it provides superior resistance to seawater, acids, and alkalis, making it ideal for marine applications such as pump shafts, propeller shafts, and seawater valves.

Unlike stainless steel, Monel 400 resists stress corrosion cracking in chloride-rich environments, offering a distinct advantage in offshore and chemical processing industries. It retains high strength at temperatures up to 500°C and exhibits excellent weldability, ensuring easy fabrication into seamless pipes, plates, and fittings.

Monel 400 also finds use in hydrofluoric acid production and brine heaters, where its durability outperforms many conventional alloys, highlighting its versatility and reliability in demanding conditions.

FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about Monel Alloy 400. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Monel 400 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in non-oxidizing acids (such as hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid). However, it corrodes rapidly in oxidizing acids such as nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid, requiring the use of Inconel 625 or Hastelloy alloy instead.

Corrosion Resistance: Monel 400 performs better in environments such as seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Its resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking is significantly superior to 316 stainless steel.
Strength and Processing: Monel 400 is hardened through cold working, resulting in higher strength than annealed stainless steel. However, machining is more challenging, requiring specialized tools and processes.
Magnetism: Monel 400 is a non-magnetic alloy, making it suitable for applications requiring protection from magnetic field interference.

Weldability: TIG and MIG welding processes are acceptable. ENICU-7 electrodes or ERNICU-7 wires are recommended, and argon is the shielding gas.

Precautions:
Before welding, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned of oil and dirt. After welding, the weld must be pickled or mechanically cleaned to avoid contamination and embrittlement.
Post-weld heat treatment is not required, but annealing at 700-900°C is recommended for thicker components to relieve stress.

Hot Working: The temperature range is 1200-900°C. It is recommended to start processing at around 1100°C to avoid prolonged high temperatures that may cause coarse grains.
Cold Working: Forming is possible through processes such as rolling and drawing, but deformation exceeding 20% requires intermediate annealing.

Yes, we offer comprehensive customization services. We can process Monel 400 sheets, bars, and tubes into precision parts such as flanges, shafts, or custom fittings based on your drawings or technical specifications.
