Description

Inconel 718 is an austenitic nickel-base superalloy primarily composed of nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr). It is a precipitation-strengthened high-temperature alloy. Renowned for its durability and superior surface finish, Inconel 718 pipe withstands both severe low-temperature corrosion and adverse high-temperature conditions. This alloy is often used in components that must withstand stress at high temperatures. Consequently, Inconel 718 pipe is commonly used in cryogenic storage tanks, downhole shafts, wellhead components, jet rockets, nuclear fuel, and pump components.

As a specialized supplier of high-temperature alloys, we produce high-performance Inconel 718 (UNS N07718) seamless and welded pipe. Our ASTM B163 Inconel 718 pipe can withstand extremely high pressures, offers excellent weldability, and comes with a product warranty.

Features And Applications

Features and advantages of Alloy 718 Pipes

The characteristics and advantages of Inconel 718 pipe stem from its unique chemical composition and heat treatment process.

  • Excellent high-temperature strength and creep resistance: It maintains extremely high mechanical strength at high temperatures. It exhibits excellent creep resistance, meaning it is less susceptible to slow plastic deformation under prolonged high temperatures and stress.
  • Excellent corrosion resistance: It maintains good oxidation resistance up to 1300°F. It offers excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts, and its resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing environments is far superior to that of ordinary stainless steel.
  • Great fatigue resistance and weldability: It exhibits excellent fatigue resistance under alternating loads and high temperatures, and is not susceptible to cracking due to cyclic stress. It also exhibits excellent weldability and a low tendency to post-weld cracking, typically resisting cracking even after direct aging treatment.
  • Excellent machinability: This is a significant advantage of Inconel 718 over other high-performance nickel-based alloys, such as Inconel 625. It is relatively soft in its solution state, making it easy to form and machine using both cold and hot working methods. It can then be aging treated to achieve ultra-high strength.
  • Great low-temperature performance: Its toughness does not significantly decrease at low temperatures, making it suitable for use in ultra-low-temperature environments, such as liquid nitrogen and liquid hydrogen.

Applications of Inconel 718 Pipe

Our Inconel 718 pipe is widely used in the oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food, paper, machinery, and natural gas industries.

Aerospace

  • Engine Components: Piping systems for key hot-end components such as high-pressure compressor disks, casings, blades, combustion chambers, and afterburners in jet engines and gas turbines.
  • Rocket Engines: Liquid fuel delivery pipelines and combustion chamber liners.

Oil and Gas Industry

  • High-Temperature and High-Pressure Downhole Tools: Armored logging cables, completion equipment (such as packers and safety valves), and downhole sensor housings.
  • Surface Equipment: For high-pressure, highly corrosive oil and gas pipelines.

Energy and Chemical Industry

  • Nuclear Power Equipment: Coolant piping and heat exchanger tubes for nuclear reactors.
  • Chemical Processing: Reactors, heat exchangers, and connecting pipes used to handle highly corrosive chemicals.
  • Gas Turbines: Hot-path components and piping for heavy-duty gas turbines used for ground-based power generation.

Other High-Tech Fields

  • Automotive Racing: Turbocharger wastegates and exhaust pipes for high-performance racing cars.
  • Heat Treatment Industry: Radiant tubes and muffles for high-temperature furnaces.

FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about Alloy 718 tube. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Yes, it is considered a difficult material. The main reasons are:
Work hardening: It hardens rapidly during machining, requiring sharp tools, lower feed rates, and higher cutting forces.
High strength and toughness: This results in high cutting forces and rapid tool wear.
Poor thermal conductivity: Cutting heat is difficult to dissipate and tends to concentrate at the tool tip, requiring good cooling and lubrication.

TIG welding is recommended, using ERNiCrMo-4 wire. The strength of the welded joint will indeed decrease: the tensile strength of the unheat-treated joint is approximately 70% of the base material (approximately 900 MPa), primarily due to the formation of brittle Laves phases in the molten zone. A “hardening recovery heat treatment” is required to restore the strength to at least 90% of the base material. Oxyacetylene welding is strictly prohibited.

Use special welding wire (such as ERNiFeCr-2), ordinary welding wire is easy to crack. Aging treatment is required after welding

Delivery times vary depending on the order size and customization requirements. Standard orders typically take 30-50 business days, 7 days for stock goods, while custom or bulk orders may take longer.
