Basic Information Of Inconel 718 Product

The following is the product specifications of Alloy 718 that Gnee can provide. If you need other information, please contact us for more information.

Description

Inconel 718 is a high-performance nickel-chromium alloy known for its exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation stability. It can be used in temperatures ranging from -423°F to 1300°F (-253°C to 705°C) and is also a high-temperature alloy. Made from niobium, molybdenum, and aluminum, it has excellent weldability and, unlike many other nickel alloys, is not susceptible to cracking during welding.

With tensile strengths up to 120 ksi (827 MPa), it is the material of choice for aerospace turbine engines, gas turbines, and rocket engines. For example, compared to Inconel 625, Inconel 718 has higher strength due to its precipitation hardening mechanism while maintaining excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking even in chloride-rich environments.

Nickel Alloy Inconel 718 is typically supplied in the solution annealed condition (AMS 5662 AMS 5596) but can also be supplied in the age hardened or precipitation heat treated condition (AMS 5663 AMS 5597) prior to forming.

FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions about Inconel 718. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Not Steel. Inconel 718 is a nickel-chromium-based high-temperature alloy. Its composition, performance and application scenarios are fundamentally different from traditional steel (iron-carbon alloy), especially in high temperature/corrosive environments, its performance far exceeds that of steel.

It is a top-level high-temperature alloy (Superalloy).

As a representative of nickel-based deformable high-temperature alloys, it has the highest yield strength below 1202°F through γ” phase strengthening, meeting the core definition of superalloys: maintaining high strength, oxidation resistance, and creep resistance at extreme temperatures.

Weakly magnetic (not completely antimagnetic).

Because it contains iron (≤21%) and niobium (Nb), it is weakly ferromagnetic in the annealed state; the magnetism may be enhanced after cold working. If you need to be completely non-magnetic, it is recommended to choose an iron-free formula such as Inconel 625

Welding, but strict process control is required.

Recommended methods:

TIG/GTAW (argon arc welding) or electron beam welding (EBW)

Post-weld heat treatment is required

No rust (but oxidation may occur).

Corrosion resistance: Chromium forms a passive film that resists pitting/stress corrosion (especially in chloride and H₂S environments)

High temperature oxidation: Continuous exposure above 1202℉ will generate an oxide layer, but it grows slowly
